The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission has reached the Moon and gone into orbit. The LRO and LCROSS missions launched successfully at 21:32 UT (5:32 p.m. EDT) on Thursday, June 18.
The Japanese Kaguya lunar orbiting spacecraft ended its mission at approximately 18:25 UT (2:25 p.m. EDT) today with an impact on the Moon. The impact took place at roughly 80.4 degrees east, 65.5 degrees south. The impact flash was recorded by the Anglo-Australian Telescope. For more, see the JAXA Press Release
